What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelets are an essential component of our blood, playing a vital role in healing and regeneration. Upon tissue damage, platelets rapidly accumulate at the site of injury to form a clot that prevents further bleeding. Further, the platelets release various growth factors and signaling molecules that initiate and promote healing of the injured tissue. Scientific research shows that the healing and regenerative properties of platelets can be utilized to treat a range of medical conditions, including hair loss (such as Androgenic Alopecia and Alopecia Areata), sun-related skin damage, scars, aging skin and stretch marks (striae distensae).

PRP and Skin Treatments

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy is a powerful solution for restoring, regenerating, and enhancing skin health. PRP has been shown to effectively boost skin elasticity and hydration, making it ideal for addressing a range of skin concerns, including pigmentation, scarring, sun damage, and signs of aging. By stimulating the dermal extracellular matrix, PRP treatments increase collagen density and promote the growth of longer, more abundant elastic fibers. This process can contribute to smoothening fine lines, reducing wrinkles from aging and sun exposure, and revitalizing skin where moisture and connective tissue have been lost/reduced. PRP is also remarkably beneficial for scar healing, such as acne scars, and can visibly improve the appearance of stretch marks.

PRP and Hair Loss

Androgenic Alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss and is estimated to affect up to 80% of people by the age of 70. Hair loss caused by this condition is typically permanent, but scientific studies show that Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy can slow down the progression of hair loss and promote growth. PRP treatment works by utilizing the body’s natural healing abilities, and clinical studies demonstrate that PRP can both delay hair loss while also enhancing hair count, density, and thickness. PRP injections are also recommended as a supportive therapy after hair transplants to enhance healing, improve graft survival, and stimulate growth. PRP has shown positive results in both men and women suffering from hair loss.
